I am in service. My office timings are from 9 am to 5:30 pm. I am a part time tutor also. Once I got an offer from one parent to teach their children who are very naughty and not doing well. It was a Jain family. They were very rich. The parents were not much educated. They were from a business family. They had decided that they will educate their children till the highest standard. They were having one daughter of 12 years old and son of 6 years old. The girl was in 6th standard and the boy was
in 1st standard. It was a challenging job because to teach the children of a family in which no one was educated. Both sister and brother were very naughty. The parents told me that they have tried it earlier also but no teacher could continue till one month because of their naughty children. I accepted the challenge. I asked them that I have some rules of teaching if they accept them than only I will start my job. My conditions were as following:1. I will teach them in the morning from 7am to 8 am. So, my students must be on the study table sharp at 7am. They must finish their breakfast before I join them. They must be in school uniform so that after I stop my class they can directly go to school.
2. They must have at least two sharpened pencils, rubber (eraser),and One new notebook.
3. Three glasses of water.
4. Handkerchief
5. Their School bag
6. Their books rack must be in the same room where I will teach them
7. Three sets of News papers
8. While I am teaching no one will approach us.
9. If the child is crying because of my slap they will not interfere.
The parents accepted my condition and asked me that not to beat them much as they love them a lot. I told them that if required I will give them slap but believe it that I will treat them as my own children. The parents asked me to stay there for few minutes and went inside their bedroom. After few minutes they came back and agreed to all my conditions. They gave me the tuition fees as advance and told me to start the tuition from 1st of the month.
It was Tuesday on 1st August I went to teach them. I knocked at the door. Their servant opened the door. He took me to the study room where both the children were on the table acting as they were reading books. They didn’t wish me. I told them hello! Chikky-Mikky, how are you? They stand up and said our name is
not Chikky and Mikky. I caught my ears and asked then what your good name is, please? They laughed a lot to see me holding my ears and said our names are Trisha and Vedant. I said oh! Very good names but dear sorry, I can’t pronounce them well because I am not much educated. Listening this they laughed a lot. Then I said will you please teach me. They again laughed. Then I said can I call you as Goodii Goodii and sweety please because it is difficult for me to pronounce their names. They became very happy and allowed me to call them as Goodii Goodii boy and sweety girl. And from this point they started behaving me like their friends. It was 8am and I said friends see you tomorrow. They asked sir, our class is over. I said, Yes.” They said sir you are so sweet please come tomorrow. And I said bye, bye to them and went to my office.Next morning when I went to their home they were eagerly waiting for me. I asked them who will teach first Goodii boy or sweety girl. They answered sir, first you teach us then we will teach you. Ok sir. I said OK dear. Then I taught the girl her first Science chapter and asked the boy to draw a cartoon. When I finished the chapter the girl asked me sir,” Will you now ask the questions?” I said no. No need to ask questions because I know you have heard me well and you know all the answers. So, why I should ask the questions? She was very happy and her brother was also happy as today he was given freedom to draw his own. I checked his drawing sheet and draw a small chocolate drawing on it. He asked sir what is this? I told him that it is a chocolate for him as his prize. He went inside the kitchen and brought a chocolate for me and said sir, you are so nice. Like this I developed a very nice student-teacher relationship with them.
They proved to be my best students till date. They secured second and fourth ranks in their classes. The parents were very happy. Then I taught them till their 10th standard. Today the girl is studying medicine and boy is pursuing engineering.
So, I believe that one can teach children with love but not with anger.
